WEST END NEIGHBORHOOD

GIS Midterm Project

I started by looking at Atlanta's BeltLine Trail. Being very familiar with the Eastside Trail that goes through the Old Fourth Ward, I decided to look at the Westside Trail in West End, since I'm unfamiliar with that side of town as a whole. That probably goes to show the issue in our cities even in Atlanta. The south and west sides are notorious areas, but how did that come to be? Who decided that? This will be further analyzed in my final project, but for the midterm, I decided to look at the West End neighborhood. I created inventory maps on cultural & historic features, demographics, parks & open space, and transportation & circulation. I also created a thematic map on "redlining" and zoning to begin to compare how historical housing inequality still influences today.
